A quarry plant is a place from which dimension stone, rock, construction aggregate, gravel, riprap, sand or slate has been excavated from the remote – Ground, not from mountain. A quarry is the same thing as an open-pit mine from which minerals are extracted. The only non-trivial difference between the two is that open-pit mines that produce building materials and dimension stone are commonly referred to as quarries.
The word quarry can also include the underground quarrying for stone, such as Bath stone.
Quarry equipment can be used in many fields such as mineral processing, cement, chemical, ceramics, construction, refractories, glass and other industrial sectors in the broken and broken bits for a variety of medium hardness materials. It is suitable for hard and mid hard rocks and ores, such as iron ores, copper ores, limestone, quartz, granite, gritstone, etc.
Types of Systems
There are many types of system, which commonly known are Vibrating Feeder, Jaw Crusher, Cone Crusher or Impact Crusher, Vibrating Screen, Belt Conveyors, Base course impactor plant, double rolls crushers and Control System. It is 100% capable to crush and screen limestone, marble, granite, basalt, and river stone. And produce sand & gravels with various granularities for construction industry, as well as building industry. Based on customer requirement, we are capable to design and provide complete quarry plants solutions. Capacity are from 30tph to 500tph. It provide optimum and most cost effective solutions for the customers on stone specifications, capacity, application, etc.
Types of rock
Types of rock extracted from quarries include:
- China clay
- Construction aggregate (sand and gravel)
- Phosphate rock
Many quarry stones such as limestone, sandstone marble, and granite are basically cut into larger slabs and then remove from the quarry. The surfaces are been polished and finished with varying degrees of sheen or lustre. Polished slabs are usually cut into tiles or countertops, use and installed in all kinds of residential and commercial properties. Natural stone quarried from the earth is often considered a luxury and tends to be a highly durable surface. Therefore, cost is a bit on the high side and highly desirable.
Problems Faced During the Process
Quarries in area located close to surface water or level areas with shallow groundwater are often face engineering problems with drainage. The water is generally removed by pumping while the quarry is in operation, but for high inflows more complex approaches may be required. For example, the Coquina quarry is excavated to more than 60 feet (18 m) below sea level. To reduce leakage from the surface, a moat lined with clay can be constructed around the quarry area. Ground water entering the pit is pumped up into the moat. As a quarry becomes deeper and deeper, water inflows generally increase and it also becomes more expensive and costly to lift the water higher during removal; this can become the limiting factor in quarry depth. Some water-filled quarries are worked from beneath the water, by dredging and not easy to work on.
There are many people and municipalities consider quarries to be eyesores and require various abatement methods to address problems with noise, dust, and appearance. One of the more effective and famous examples of successful quarry restoration is the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC, Canada.
A further problem is pollution of roads from trucks leaving the quarries. To control and restrain the pollution of public roads, wheel washing systems are becoming more common now a day.
Main article: Quarry lake
Many quarries naturally fill with water after abandonment and become lakes. Others are made into landfills.
Water-filled quarries can be very deep with water, often 50 feet or more that is often very cold. Unexpectedly cold water can cause a swimmer’s muscles to suddenly weaken; it can also cause shock and may cause hypothermia. Though quarry water is often very clear, submerged quarry stones and abandoned equipment make diving into these quarries extremely dangerous. Several people drown in quarries each year. However, many inactive quarries are converted into safe swimming sites.
Some Quarry Plant locate around the World:
- Carrara quarry in Tuscany, Italy.
- Portland stone quarry on the Isle of Portland, England.
